Priya Parmar, MD, is a board-certified Psychiatrist at Rise TMS. Dr. Parmar provides effective, patient-centered mental health treatments in a therapeutic environment in Westlake Village, California.
She was born in Rhode Island and raised in West Virginia. Growing up in an Indian family in a predominantly white area, she learned to navigate through different cultures. She is blessed with a strong curiosity, intelligence, and kindness.
Dr. Parmar feels fortunate to have broadly experienced life. Her life was not restricted to solely academics, like some people who go on to be doctors. She has filled her life with friendships, travel, and experience in various social milieus.
Following high school, she spent a year in New Delhi, India studying Ancient Indian History and Eastern Philosophy at Delhi university.
Returning to the United States, Dr. Parmar finished her Bachelor of Science in Biology.She completed her medical training at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She completed her MD residencies in General Adult Psychiatry at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine in Honolulu and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
After residency, Dr Parmar was an attending at San Francisco General Hospital, working on the inpatient unit, teaching medical students and residents. She also spent 2 years working night shifts at the San Francisco General Psychiatric Emergency Service. She has seen thousands of mentally ill people in crisis and provided care.
In 2002, left the world of academic and institutional psychiatry and opened her own solo private practice in San Francisco.
In 2009, she became a fellow at the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and has been a recognized ASAM Fellow since 2011. Before this, she received Mentorship from Joe Weiss, MD, Psychoanalyst at San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group in Control Mastery Psychodynamic Theory.
She is trained and certified in Primordial Sound Meditation at Chopra Global, where she earned her Teacher’s Certification. She completed the Clinical TMS Society “Pulses” course in 2017 and continues to be a member of this society since 2017.
Dr. Parmar has the experience of joining a blended family and giving birth and raising children in Westlake Village, a community she loves and feels thankful to call home.
